Here are some common questions parishioners have regarding the Church and Parish.
Baptism
What do I need to baptize a child at St. Joseph Church?
You will need for the:
- Child a Birth Certificate
- Godparent(s) – Certificate of Sacrament of Confirmation (if they are single), or Marriage Certificate issued through the Catholic Church (if they are married)
- Godparent(s) along with Parent must take Baptism preparation sessions
How far in advance must I make arrangements to baptize in the church?
At least 1 month! All arrangements must be made in person inside the Parish Office.
Is there a fee for the Baptism Preparation sessions?
Yes, there is a stole fee, and a session fee. This information is available in the parish office.
How can I obtain a copy of my Baptism Certificate?
Call the parish you were baptized at. If you were baptized here at Sunnyside’s St. Joseph Church , then you may contact us through phone or e-mail.
What information will we need from you?
- Your date of birth
- an estimate of when you think you were baptized? We understand you might not remember the exact date; we are okay with an estimate. Also, ask your relatives or Sponsor(s)/godparent(s)
- First and Last name of both your Father and Mother (listed in your Birth Certificate).
We do not ask for a Social Security number! No parish should ask for it.
Since our Sacrament records are not in a digital database, we have to search manually through handwritten books with the information you provide to us. Give the office about a 2 week notice for this request. During July, August, and September Baptism Certificates delay over 2 weeks (due to Religious Education & Sacramental Preparation registrations).
Weddings
What do I need to start my marriage process through the church?
Schedule a meeting with Father Roy at least 6 months before the wedding date. In that discussion he will discuss the preparation sessions schedule, and required paperwork.
Also, during the Marriage preparation you and your fiancé(e) will be required to provide a Baptism Certificate issued within the last 6 months.
Dedicating a Mass / Mass Intentions
If you want to make a special Mass intention for a birthday, recovery, wellbeing, best wishes, grief, eternal rest, etc. You may do this by contacting Father Roy. Stole fee donation of $10.
